Aaron Van Dyke and Tom Haakenson are giving a talk on Walter Benjamin's "Theses on the Philosophy of History" (now often referred to as "On the Concept of History") Tuesday, October 20 in Auditorium 140 at noon.
"Theses on the Philosophy of History" was published in Illuminations, which is on the reserve shelf in the library under Graham Stout's name.
Also, there is a good book on display (on a shelf for upcoming talks) in the library called The Origin of Negative Dialects. Chapter 3 ("Dialects without Identity: The Idea of Natural History") is a good resource for thinking about the ideas in Benjamin's essay.
The Art Sale is drawing near. Please read the following and plan
ahead...
The MCAD Art Sale has become a tradition in the Twin Cities, drawing
over 3,400 people to campus to purchase student and alumni artwork. It
is a great opportunity to earn money and show your work to a large,
diverse audience. At last year's Art Sale $239,000 worth of artwork
was sold. Of that revenue 80% goes straight to the student and alumni
artists! We need your involvement to make this year even greater than
the last. Get started with the Student Submission Form:
